Buying a suppressor online step by step – NFA eForm 4 process

Buying a suppressor online might seem complicated, but it’s straightforward when you have the right Class 3/FFL dealer on your side. At Cobra Arms, we walk you through every step — from choosing the right can to submitting your eForm 4 to the ATF. Here’s exactly how it works (including how it works if you’re not local).

Step 1: Choose Your Suppressor

Start by browsing our selection of NFA suppressors. We stock trusted brands across AR platforms, PCCs, bolt guns, and more.

  • CMMG — Zeroed suppressors designed to complement CMMG’s modular firearm ecosystem.

Step 2: Purchase Through Our Online Store

After you choose a suppressor, check out online like any other product. Because it’s an NFA item, it must transfer through a licensed FFL/SOT.

Step 3: Local vs. Non-Local Buyers — How Transfers Work

If you’re local: we schedule fingerprinting and photos, complete your eForm 4 (trust or individual), and submit electronically. We keep you updated at each step.

If you’re NOT local: you can still buy from Cobra Arms — you’ll just select a local FFL with a Class 3 SOT to receive your suppressor.

  1. Choose a Transferring FFL/Class 3 Dealer: Pick a nearby SOT that accepts incoming NFA items. We can recommend reputable partners.
  2. Dealer-to-Dealer Transfer (ATF Form 3/eForm 3): We file a Form 3 to transfer your suppressor from our SOT to your receiving dealer’s SOT before shipment.
  3. Receiving Dealer Intake: They’ll complete their checks and collect any needed documents (ID, trust, etc.).
  4. Shipping & Pickup: We ship to that dealer — not to your home. You’ll pick up after their process and your approval steps are finished.

Timing note: Form 3 + receiving dealer intake adds time. Suppressors do not ship immediately; plan for extra processing and shipping beyond a direct in-house eForm 4.

Step 4: Complete Your ATF eForm 4 Application (When Applicable)

If you’re applying through us locally, we’ll prep the eForm 4 package: passport photo, fingerprints (we offer in-house), and electronic submission. If you’re using a receiving dealer, they may handle some or all of the final paperwork after Form 3 approval.

  • 📸 Passport-style photo
  • 🖐️ Fingerprinting (in-house available; some receiving dealers require theirs)
  • 📝 eForm 4 or dealer-to-dealer eForm 3 depending on the route

Step 5: Wait for ATF Approval (No Immediate Shipping)

Approval times vary. Direct eForm 4 submissions can range from days to weeks (and very rarely months). Dealer-to-dealer Form 3 transfers add additional time (typically 3-5 business days) on top of shipping and the receiving dealer’s intake. We’ll communicate realistic expectations so you always know where things stand.

Step 6: Pickup or Final Transfer

When approved, you’ll pick up your suppressor at our shop (local) or at your receiving Class 3 dealer (non-local) with valid ID (and trust docs if applicable).
